The Top 5 Irish Pubs in the United States
The worst part about not living in Ireland is not being around the authentic Irish Pubs the Emerald Isle is known for. Luckily there are a number of Irish pubs in the states that bring traditional Irish culture to our cities. We narrowed down some of our favorite Irish pubs from across the United States so you can get your fix of the Irish, without having to travel across the Atlantic Ocean.
The Irish Rover: Louisville, KY
The Irish Rover has been in business for more than 20 years, making a well-known home in the Clifton-Crescent Hill neighborhood of Louisville. With more than 35 Irish whiskeys, 10+ single malt scotches, 12+ Bourbons, as well as Irish and English beers on tap, the Irish Rover embodies a true Irish pub. However, alcohol selection is not their only claim to fame. The Irish Rover is just as well known for its Saturday Irish breakfasts, authentic Irish dishes, and having a bottle of malt vinegar on every table for your fish n chips.
One Yelp user said, “There's a decent number of Irish restaurants in Louisville, but the Rover is the one that makes me feel like I'm in Tullamore popping round to the pub for a pint with the lads. Dublin smokies - my favorite dish. It's a seafood gratin with a good variety of fish and shrimp with a delicious cheese sauce. Scotch eggs - rich and super savory sausage wrapped around hard boiled egg and deep fried. Awesome for apps. In the wintertime, make sure and get some of the hot toddy simmering in the pot behind the bar. If you go, say hi to Michael Reidy, the proprietor who made it from County Clare to Louisville in the late 80's.”
Nine Fine Irishmen: Las Vegas, NV
It’s no surprise there is a traditional Irish pub located on the Strip, but whether it is any good is the question. Lucky for all the lovers of Sin City, the Nine Fine Irishmen pub is not just good, it’s great. Located in the New York-New York Hotel & Casino, the Nine Fine Irishmen has more than 20 different Irish whiskeys, and a variety of beer, both on tap and bottled. The pub was named after nine Irishmen who fought against the British Empire before being exiled. With a vast lunch and dinner menu, everyone will find a new dish to call their favorite. The best part, they have a house band that performs traditional Irish music and singalongs on a nightly basis.
A Yelp user from California said this about the Nine Fine Irishmen, “My review is based off of the bar service and the entertainment provided as my fiancé and I haven't been here yet to eat. We stop by NFI every time we are in Vegas just to see the band play. They are amazing!!!!!!!!! I never get tired of this place. The songs are always spot on, the entertainment is always happy and fun. Never a dull moment. The bar is great too. They are quick to get you your drinks and you definitely feel like you are getting what you pay for.”
Tír na nÓg: Philadelphia, PA
Tír na nÓg , located in center city Philadelphia, has been named winner of The Best Guinness Pint, Best After Work Bar, Best Happy Hour, and Best Bartenders, to no surprise after you visit. The original Tír na nÓg, located in Midtown Manhattan, brought the warmth of traditional Irish pubs and cuisine and integrated it with New American cuisine to create an environment of relaxation and hospitality. Max Johnson, Tír na nÓg’s Executive Chef, has customized the brunch, lunch, and dinner menus, adding new and fresh seasonal items every week. Some featured items include traditional Shepherd’s Pie, Loaded Short Rib Poutine, and desserts like Apple Raisin Bread Pudding. Tír na nÓg’s selection of alcohol includes more than 15 types of draught beer, 28 types of bottled beer, as well as a large variety of whiskeys, bourbons, and other liquors.
One yelp user said , “I went here for just a few beers with my friends, than I wound up having one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Everyone I was with would agree all the same, what ever you guys are doing, keep it up! I decided to go with the fried chicken sandwich, I was expecting a normal pub sandwich, boy was I wrong. I didn't know a chicken sandwich would be so good. My friend wouldn't shut up about his braised short ribs, tried one of them and I ordered a plate for myself. If I could give these guys 6 stars, I would.”
The Dubliner: Dallas, TX
Locals in Dallas know the Dubliner as the best place to go for a cold glass of draught Guinness, calling it the best in town. And if they have the best Guinness, you know the rest of their offerings aren’t far behind. With 14 Irish whiskeys, 12 other types of bourbon and whiskey, 16 kinds of single malt scotch, six texas bourbon’s and whiskeys, along with a large selection of draught and bottled beer. Along with drinks, the Dubliner has a menu full of a variety of Irish and American classics.
A reviewer on Yelp mentioned, “I took advantage of learning about this establishment through the whiskey pairing dinner, which is well documented in the myriad of photos. What can't be seen in the photos, is the incredible service that is consistently applied throughout the bar. An empty glass doesn't sit, the patron doesn't have to ask for water, and regular stops by different employees to ensure a good time by all. They know their whiskeys, beers, and have a fun assortment of cocktails. A couple of highlight items on the menu: A good selection of Texas whiskeys, and an incredible selection of Irish whiskeys.”
Macallans Public House: Brea, CA
Located not far from Buena Park, Anaheim, and Yorba Linda, Macallans Public House is a cozy Irish Pub that features traditional live Irish music every Friday and Saturday night. Macallans touts itself as having the best selection of Scotch and Whiskey in Orange County, with more than 250 types to choose from. In addition to whiskey, bourbon, and scotch, they have a large selection of cocktails, wine, beer, as well as non-alcoholic beverages. When it comes to their food, you have your choice of traditional Celtic meals alongside American fare, so no patron leaves with an empty stomach.
A user on Yelp said, “We thought of going to Perch in downtown LA instead came to downtown Brea to have some good late lunch and a few drinks. Wow... service was great, very helpful and nice, food from the presentation to taste, wonderful and delicious..:pub slider is a must, animal style poutine got to try, mussels just made my day.
